Two Informa Books Scoop Highly Commended Honours at BMA Awards

LONDON – Two of Informa’s reference texts have been highly commended at this year’s BMA Medical Book Awards. Informa’s industry bible, Husband & Reznek’s Imaging in Oncology, Third Edition, has been highly commended in the Radiology category, while the highly regarded reference text, Mallucci & Sgouros Cerebrospinal Fluid Disorders, has been highly commended in the Neurology category.

The BMA Awards were established in 1995 with the aim of encouraging and rewarding excellence in medical publishing. Prizes are awarded in 21 categories, with an overall BMA Medical Book of the Year Award made from the category winners.

The third edition of the highly acclaimed, award-winning, multi-author, highly illustrated Imaging in Oncology builds on the successful format of the previous editions. The book covers a range of topics including primary tumour evaluation and staging, haematology malignancies, paediatrics, metastases and functional imaging.

“The content of the book is an evidence-based, extensively referenced, comprehensive analysis of imaging patients with cancer with contributions from internationally acknowledged experts writing authoritatively on their recognised topics,” explains Dr Cornish.

The editors, Dame Janet E Husband, OBE, FMedSci, FRCP, FRCR and Rodney H Reznek, FRANZCR (Hon), FCRP, FRCR are highly respected, much published experts in the field.

Dame Janet Husband is Emeritus Professor of Radiology, Institute of Cancer Research and the Royal Marsden Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in London and Surrey, UK. Professor Husband led pioneering clinical research in both CT and MRI in cancer care and has published more than 300 scientific papers and books, lectured extensively throughout the world and won many awards and fellowships over the last two decades.

Rodney Reznek is Professor of Diagnostic Imaging at the Centre for Cancer Imaging, Institute of Cancer, Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, London, UK. Professor Reznek is the author or co-author of more than 300 scientific papers and book chapters, editor of several eminent journals in the field and has won awards and fellowships around the world.

Addressing the gap in literature between paediatric medicine and geriatric medicine, Cerebrospinal Fluid Disorders examines the disorders of the cerebrospinal fluid (CFS) pathways from birth to old age, exploring and managing the resultant effects of such disorders on both the brain and spine throughout the changes in development.

Cerebrospinal Fluid Disorders contains comprehensive multi-disciplinary content, more than 400 illustrations, expert patient communication tips and key updates. The book, written by more than 50 global experts in neurology and related disciplines, offers the most effective diagnostic and management guidelines for treating patients with CSF disorders.

The editors, Conor Mallucci and Spyros Sgouros are both Consultant Neurosurgeons and experts in their field. Dr Mallucci is based at The Walton Centre for Neurology and Neurosurgery NHS Foundation Trust and Alder Hey Children’s NHS Trust, Liverpool, UK. His sub specialties include brain and spinal tumours, hydrocephalus and paediatrics. Dr Mallucci is Chairman of the British Paediatric Neurosurgery Group and Deputy Editor of the British Journal of Neurosurgery.

Dr Sgouros is Consultant Neurosurgeon at ‘Attikon’ University Hospital and Associate Professor of Neurosurgery at the University of Athens in Greece. He is a member of the Executive Board of the International and European Societies for Paediatric Neurosurgery and is Associate Editor for Child’s Nervous System.
