Baltic region focus at Informa's Intermodal Europe 2013
The Baltic Sea Region with its nine countries will be a focus on Day 3 at Intermodal Europe 2013, which takes place at the Hamburg Messe, from 8-10 October.
The Baltic Sea Region market noted another historical peak with 9.5 million TEU handled in all its sea ports last year. Will 2013 bring a new benchmark of over 10 million boxes? Will Russia and Poland continue their outstanding growths? Will ocean carriers further expand with own feeders and will more direct ocean loops enter the Baltic? Or - will we see a total revolution in feedering loops from 2015? Will Hamburg – Antwerp range keep main transhipment function for the region or will new hubs appear in the East / in the South of Europe?
These questions, and many more, will be addressed by speakers from key market players dealing with the region’s container liner traffic – representatives of shipping, port, terminal and rail intermodal sectors. Discussions will be based on a recently published Baltic Container Yearbook 2013, which is a supplement to Baltic Transport Journal 3/2013 June edition, and a free access portal.
“We led three conference sessions at Intermodal Europe 2011, in which we compared routes and transport possibilities to different countries in our region, and they gathered more than 70 high level executives in the audience” says Piotr Trusiewicz, Publishing Director of Baltic Transport Journal, who is also behind the project.
“Now, with our yearbooks and maps portal, we have created a groundbreaking free market information system. Thanks to this, forwarding and logistics managers can streamline their daily jobs while looking for existing connections. Shipping and rail operators can evaluate their market position and find existing niches and new potentials. Ports and terminals can make better development plans and find proper business partners and investors. Finally, container products and services providers have a full overview of companies active on the market.”
During the conference sessions, visitors will get an overview of all 25 shipping lines and 31 intermodal rail operators, about 100 single shipping loops and 180 regular trains to and from and within the region, as well as a network of around 50 ports and 100 sea and inland container terminals.
Countries in the Baltic Sea Region include Scandinavia, Poland, Russia, Germany, and three Baltic Republics.
Those attending the conference sessions will receive a free copy of the most recent Baltic Container Yearbook 2013 publication.
