Informa’s 2012 Green Week plans underway
Informa’s 4th annual Green Week, set for 17th-22nd of September, will once again look to inspire, recognise and celebrate environmental and sustainability achievements around the group. Two new initiatives have been created to encourage even more involvement and understanding between the global divisions.
The Best Sustainability Initiative aims to find internal processes that push sustainability up the business agenda. The winner, who will receive a cash prize, may be someone who has put plans in place to make a process more efficient, found ways to work better with suppliers, business partners or customers or thought of a new product or service. A second initiative invites employees to show how their division influences the sustainability agenda through their product’s content, whether in print, online or at events and training.
Colette Bennion, CR executive of Informa, says, “We are glad to be into the 4th year of an initiative that, year by year, is seeing and celebrating increasingly bold initiatives to minimise the business’ environmental impacts. It has seen staff encourage each other into more sustainable habits, and we look forward to having the additional focus this year of investigating Informa’s wider impact on the sustainability agenda through our products. Last year was great and it was brilliant to see staff enthusiasm to get involved and really innovative environmental ideas come to fruition.”
Central initiatives during Informa’s Green Week include the Green Games, where the Group’s businesses are pitted against each other as staff compete on environmental challenges, as well as Informa’s awards for Unsung Green Champions. Highlights from 2011 include Euroforum Germany signing a contract to start sourcing electricity from renewable sources, Informa’s Shared Services division in the UK committing to become a paperless office, and IIR Middle East raising money to pay for plastic waste to be recycled into reef balls to act as a fake coral reef to bring sea life back to certain areas.
