Routledge is recognised by the Association of American Geographers
Taylor & Francis Group is delighted to announce that the Association of American Geographers (AAG) has awarded the 2012 AAG Publication Award to its Routledge imprint. The AAG conferred this award ‘to recognize and honour Routledge for its long-term commitment to geography and for its sustained support of the AAG’s innovative efforts to enhance the quality and international reach of its journals and other publications’.
Routledge works closely with the AAG, publishing their journals, including their flagship journal, The Annals of the Association of American Geographers and its sister title, The Professional Geographer and more recently two book titles, GeoHumanities and Envisioning Landscapes, Making Worlds.
In a citation released by the AAG they give a fuller explanation of why they decided that Routledge deserved this honour, drawing attention to:
- the extensive support provided by Routledge to its authors and editors;
- the outreach program developed by Routledge which has helped to increase the diversity of authors writing for their titles, particularly from international, junior and minority scholars;
- the work Routledge has done to streamline the Association’s publishing process and shorten turnaround times;
- changes that Routledge has helped to implement that have addressed journal quality, distribution, marketing, finances and intellectual property protection
- Routledge’s investment in AAG titles which has included digitizing journal backfiles and providing colour publishing for maps, charts and photos;
- and more widely, its investment in the Geography community via conference, reception, book group and event sponsorship.
Dr David Green, Publishing Director at Taylor & Francis Journals, was in New York to collect the award at the AAG Awards Luncheon. On receiving the honour he stated ‘Routledge has been publishing on behalf of the AAG since 2008 and is consistently impressed by the AAG staff and journal editors for the commitment and enthusiasm they apply to their publications. We aim to match this with our ethos, which combines the enthusiasm, talent, knowledge and sheer hard work of our staff with a tailored approach to every title which puts our authors and the quality of our content first.’
On presenting the award to Routledge, Douglas Richardson, Executive Director of the AAG announced, ‘Congratulations on receiving this award and many thanks for Routledge’s exemplary collaboration with the AAG in support of our journals and other publications.
